EDFX Weekly Blog by Russ Adams

We have been around a while, but it’s only been in the last few years that Escape Design FX has begun to really make a name for ourselves in the independent film community.  Escape Design FX’s mission is to provide unique quality merchandise to our customers and clients, and that, in my opinion, is why filmmakers and customers keep coming back to us.

So what do we do at Escape Design FX? We are creature creators, special effects artists, makeup artists, and mask makers. We pride ourselves on making film quality products to fit independent film budgets. Werewolf 2.0 was our first full body suit. While Werewolf 2.0 was a pretty amazing creature, we continually attempt to refine the suit to be lighter and more affordable. We know that a creature can make or break a horror film, so we want our werewolf, zombies, and beasts to look as real as possible and to be as unique as the independent films they star in.

So, what about these masks? We, at Escape Design FX, make some of the coolest mask around. From our werewolves to our zombies, our Minotaur to our ape masks, we put all of our effort into providing the customer with not only a one of a kind mask, but a work of art. Each mask is sculpted by Escape Design FX artists, carefully molded, and cast right here in our studio. We hand paint each one. We punch in each hair one strand at a time where necessary, and ship straight from our studio. We take as much care in our masks as we do our film creatures.

We also make some really amazing display pieces, such as our shrunken heads, reapers, wall mounted werewolves & zombies, and so much more.

Via our new blog, I intend to share a little more about the studio, our projects, and our opinions on everything from creature creation to stopmotion animation. I am very interested in ideas for future blogs, so if there is a subject you would like to know more about, send me an email.
